Social studies cover a variety of activities, which allow the child to develop an openness to the world and to others, and many other skills.
Social studies include:
Art: Drawing, painting, folding, cutting, etc.
Plastic art covers both expressive and creative activities that lead to concrete productions. These activities prepare the child for learning to write through graphics, but they also develop dexterity, motor skills, creativity, and a sense of aesthetics through drawing, painting, colouring and even manual work.
The children discover different tools, supports, and materials and become familiar with colours.
Musical education
Music education is an activity for learning rhythms and songs. It is about getting the child to
recognise musical instruments, to love music, song and rhythm and to awaken hidden talents.
The aims of music education are to
• to develop the child’s phonatory organs
• to develop the child’s artistic sensitivity
• to improve their perceptive and discriminatory abilities through sounds and musical instruments.
In particular, songs enable children to acquire language through pronunciation and articulation
exercises. The sequence of rhythmic words sensitizes the child to the rhythm of speech,
intonation and also the structure of the language. Rhymes also prepare children for reading by
making them aware of their language and the way sounds are combined to form words. Finally,
songs work on memory and explore how to act with words in a fun way.
Daily activities and good habits
Practical life activities help to prepare the child to live in society, to acquire good habits and
attitudes as well as behaviours enabling him/her to adapt to certain environmental
requirements.
They enable the child to :
• cultivate social and cultural values (respect for oneself, for others, for the public good, a
spirit of sharing, solidarity, a sense of responsibility, tolerance, forgiveness, etc.).
• to develop imagination and critical thinking;
• to immerse themselves in the richness and values of their environment;
• to prepare for life as a responsible and useful citizen of his country.
